MURRAY, CO-DIRECTOR OF THE MIT INNOVATION INITIATIVE, WILL ADVISE PRIME MINISTER DAVID CAMERON ON EDUCATION, RESEARCH, POLICY, AND THE ECONOMY.
MIT Sloan Associate Dean for Innovation Fiona Murray was named this week to British Prime Minister David Cameron’s Council for Science and Technology.
The council advises Cameron on issues related to science and technology in the United Kingdom, including education, research, policy, and the economy.
Murray, a British citizen, was named associate dean for innovation at MIT Sloan last year. Along with engineering professor Vladimir Bulovic, she is helping to lead the MIT Innovation Initiative.
At MIT Sloan, Murray is also the Alvin J. Siteman (1948) Professor of Entrepreneurship and the faculty director of the Martin Trust Center for MIT Entrepreneurship. She teaches the popular Innovation Teams course and was among the faculty who launched the MIT Regional Entrepreneurial Acceleration Program in 2012. Her research has investigated ways to accelerate the process of bringing new technologies out of labs and into the marketplace. She has also studied access to venture capital and the challenges faced by women entrepreneurs.
Cameron last year visited MIT to meet with Murray, MIT President L. Rafael Reif, and Media Lab director Joichi Ito, as well as faculty and student entrepreneurs.
