Rio de Janeiro (RJ) State is ranked second in GDP out of the 27 Brazilian states, and third in population, yet 24th in terms of size of geographic area. Rio’s capital is one of the most innovative cities in Brazil, with a high proportion of Masters and Doctoral degree holders and an intensity of public R&D investments.
MIT REAP Team Rio is working to overcome some critical challenges to materialize the region’s full potential. The team is focused on creating and developing startups in the areas of energy and sustainability, transforming academic research in the areas of energy and sustainability into new business and attracting new investments, as well as improving the overall business environment for energy sector innovations.
