Hualien faces challenges in developing an innovation-driven entrepreneurial ecosystem due to its geographical isolation, which limits infrastructure and connectivity. Low population density and a brain drain contribute to a shortage of skilled workers, while reliance on natural resources and tourism restricts the growth of a high-tech entrepreneurial culture. Overcoming these obstacles is vital for long-term economic development.

Our goal is to transform Hualien County into a model city in Taiwan’s new well-being economy, focusing on smart healthcare, sustainable tourism, and the energy sector. Through MIT REAP, we aim to create actionable strategies and coordinate efforts with our stakeholders to achieve this vision.
