In 2020, Egypt ranked second within the Middle East and Africa for its number of startup investment deals. It also ranked second in the Middle East for the total amount of startup investments and in the top 10 for its overall financing climate. Globally, the capital of Cairo is among the top 10 startup ecosystems with its abundance of skills at competitive wages.
MIT REAP Team Egypt is focused on establishing and operating a network of community innovation hubs (CIHs) on the campuses of nine universities as a platform to stimulate innovation-driven entrepreneurship in information and communication technology among the hubs’ communities, particularly among university staff and students. The team has representation from the IT Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), Si-Ware Systems, Egypt University of Informatics-Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, AUC School of Business, BasharSoft / WUZZUF, and Microsoft Egypt.
