With Manizales as its capital city, the Caldas region is one of Colombia’s three coffee regions. It has a diversified economy that concentrates on agricultural activities (primarily coffee). Still, it has evolved to also focus on manufacturing and services sectors, including warehousing, transportations, lodging, and food services, as the main contributors to aggregate production.

MIT REAP Team Caldas is working on improving Caldas’ innovation and entrepreneurship capacity by fostering more innovation-driven entrepreneurs in sectors within the region’s competitive advantage. The team is also working on unifying metrics, which will help stakeholders understand the as-is state of the ecosystem and what needs tackling first.
